MARCH 2020:
After careful consideration, Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman - the creator of the dance form has decided to move away from the names “American Tribal Style®” and “ATS®” in favor of using “FatChanceBellyDance®Style” to describe the dance format. This is in response to much discussion across the world regarding the connotations of the word Tribal.
ATS will always be part of the history of this improvised dance form. These three simple letters made it possible for the dance format to develop into what it is today and to spread across the world. However, it is essential for the dance community to evolve and engage with issues that can be complex and emotional. The term ATS no longer serves us as a community. It is time to let it go.
FatChanceBellyDance®Style, FatChance®Style, and FCBD®Style will now be used in our teaching, marketing, and promotional materials instead of American Tribal Style and ATS.
